Ready Player One meets Genius: the Game in this modern sci-fi story

Etta is an outcast, labeled religious by her community and scorned for a God she doesn’t even believe in. Years ago her mother and brother were arrested, and her family still bears the scars of that horrific night. Etta longs for escape, to get away from her past and embrace her future. So when she hears of BULLETPROOF, an open-world VR game, she jumps at the chance to escape reality for a little while. But what she finds is a lot more than she bargained for. Now BULLETPROOF has fallen to the Destroyer’s darkness, and she has only hours to save innocent people trapped inside the game before their reality is sucked away to loose terrible evil upon the real world.

Four teens. One villain. Twelve hours remain.

Black Forest Gateau & Time Travel

Side Project | Novella

Draft Two | Writing/Editing

"The best black forest gateau I have ever tasted just so happens to be made by a field mouse. Unfortunately, if I can’t learn how to time travel in the next twenty-four hours, everything I know and love is gone. Forever."

Sorrel's day started out normal. But when an old fox tells you that you have to figure out how to time travel within the next day, things get a little intense. Now, instead of spending a fun day with her family, Sorrel gets to use her Provider Crystal to travel to the past, present, and future in order to stop evil from destroying everything she knows. That's a bit hard, when Sorrel doesn't exactly believe in the Provider, but she'll figure it out, right? She has to!

The Roadtrip

Side Project | Short Story | 11k words

Draft One | Finished

Celia Lane doesn’t know who she wants to be. Her parents want her to use her gift of songwriting for God. Her teachers tell her to pursue engineering. Her schoolmates tell her she’ll be nothing more than a mousy teenaged girl.

Then summer break rolls around, and her two BFFs, Adrianna Goodwin and Nancy Yates, surprise Celia with a road trip around the U.S. All summer long, it’ll be three girls in one Honda Civic, traveling from state to state and doing everything on their bucket lists.

Celia soon realizes this is her chance to live her life—because you only live once—the way she wants and figure out who she wants to be. And she is soon left wondering if this trip wasn’t orchestrated, because everywhere she goes–tourist centers, country stores, even gas stations–she’s hearing of Elohim, a God so much different from the vengeful being her parents make Him out to seem that she decides that a life with Him is so much better than without. But who orchestrated it? Her friends? Her parents? Or maybe…Elohim Himself?

One thing is for sure: this road trip is going to be one to remember.
