Hello, and welcome back to Blonde Girl Writing, where I talk about writing, God, and reading! So sorry about my random hiatus, I was taking a rest day on Monday and then completely forgot to post anything Tuesday...so here we are.
Today I'll be giving an overview of the YA sci-fi novel I've been working on for about two years now. A little while ago, I posted about the world of BULLETPROOF, as well as the four main characters. Now, I'll be sharing more of the plot side of things.
BULLETPROOF is about four teenagers--Etta, Marcus, Grace, and Ollie--who get trapped in an all-immersive VR game. It's been overtaken by the Destroyer, an evil entity in the game that was born of a glitch that the Admins never fixed. Now the teens have just twelve hours to save people who have also been trapped in the game before the Destroyer sucks the reality out of them and creates a Portal to Earth so he can conquer it.
As you can see, the sci-fi elements are strong in this. It gives vibes of Ready Player One as well as Genius: the Game, and has a resistance group in the last part that I had so much fun writing. The themes are forgiveness, found family, and how no one is too far from God to return to Him. The main character, Etta, is an outcast in her community for being "religious" and her father is an absentee parent. Marcus is hoping to rescue his parents from BULLETPROOF and return them home to his family. Grace wants to share the truth of Jesus with her family and use her talents for God's glory but keeps hitting roadblocks. And Ollie just wants a family to adopt him, so he can finally feel loved and worthy.
BULLETPROOF is YA--mostly for violence and some scenes that deal with trauma--but it's completely clean of swearing, spice, or gore. As a follower of Jesus, I want to glorify Him and write clean books that people can enjoy without feeling uncomfortable or grossed out.
Anyway, that's just a little overview of my novel! It isn't ready to share just yet--I'm still on my first round of edits--but stay tuned for more updates and tidbits to come.
Best wishes,
~ Jonah
