Continuing To Push Forward, Even When It's Tough

Hey, everybody. Welcome to Blonde Girl Writing, where I'll be getting a little off-topic to share something that has been on my heart recently.

You see, I've been trying to raise money to go on a mission trip to Kenya. I went last year and it was an amazing experience. But I also learned an important lesson before we ever left the country--trusting God to bring the funds you need.

The trip required a lot of fundraising. It was a little over $2000, and I busted my butt trying to raise all that money. I wrote Christian organizations, baked, and sold random junk, but most importantly: I gave it to God.

I went through a very rough period in my life where I was constantly worried about whether I was going to make enough money or not. I constantly had to remind myself that God had it under control. I constantly had to give my fundraising back and try not to worry about it. And it was hard.

Today, I find myself in a similar situation. I have just under two months to raise $2200. And it feels like everywhere I go, I'm being held back. It feels like every fundraising idea I have never makes enough, and never gets off the ground. I'm hitting walls everywhere I go, and I'm getting more frustrated and worried the closer the final deadline approaches.

But I am here to remind myself--and so many other people who feel they are also hitting walls everywhere they go--that I can't give up. I have to keep pushing through and trusting God.

Here are some encouraging verses for you to read, believe, internalize, and speak over yourself:

  • Philippians 4:13 (NLT): "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."

  • Isaiah 41:10 (NLT): "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.

  • Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.

  • I will strengthen you and help you.

  •  I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

  • Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT): "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'"

  • Romans 8:28 (NLT): "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."

  • Matthew 19:26 (NLT): "Jesus looked at them intently and said, 'Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.'"

  • Romans 5:3-5 (NLT): "We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love."

  • Matthew 7:7-8 (NLT): "'Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.'"

  • James 1:12 (NLT): "God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."

I challenge you to look up these Scriptures, write them down, think about them, pray about them, confess them, and interact with them. Ask God to show you what He wants to say to you through them.

If anything, just spend time with God. I'm honestly speaking to myself as I write this. I need to spend more time with God and remember the encouragement of His Word.

So if I can leave you with anything, remember this: God is with you and for you. Read His Word, push through even when it's tough, and keep moving forward. God will get you through.

I'm rooting for you, friend.

Best wishes,

Jonah
