Music Recommendations For Every Genre

Writer: Jonah BraelynJonah Braelyn

the banner for this post, titled "music recommendations for every genre"

Hello, and welcome back to Blonde Girl Writing, where I talk about writing, God, and reading! Today I wanted to do a simple, lighthearted post about some of my music recommendations for every genre that I listen to. So let's jump right in!

Indie Folk

Starting with my favorite genre, indie folk music! My music recommendation for you would be Thus Always To Tyrants by the Oh Hellos. It's a great introduction for those trying to get into indie folk (because the Oh Hellos are classic) but it's also a great song if you like indie folk with simple, beautiful lyrics and guitars and background vocals.

Christian Contemp (aka CCM)

Next up we have Christian contemporary music, or CCM for short. There are lots of songs out there, but you can't go wrong with TobyMac! One of my favorite songs from him would be Love Broke Thru, which isn't too old but isn't too new either. It's sweet, upbeat, and so catchy--I highly recommend it if you want to put yourself in a good mood and remember what God has done for you.

Epic Instrumental

Another fantastic "genre" would be instrumental music, especially epic instrumentals. For this genre I HIGHLY recommend A Warrior's Fate by Antti Martikainen. It's perfect for listening to while reading a fantasy book, writing an epic scene, or when you want to pretend to swordfight or slay a dragon. The vibes are there, and it's seriously so good!

Musicals

Excuse me for my lack of knowledge in this area, but I haven't watched or listened to a lot of musicals, so most of the songs in the category for me are from musical movies. My recommendation--You've Never Had Chocolate Like This--comes from a musical movie called Wonka that I love a whole lot! And You've Never Had Chocolate Like This is fun, very catchy, and so whimsical. It blends a lot of different types of singing together, and the narrative is hilarious. I highly recommend if you want something to sing along to.

Parodies

I don't know about you, but I love parodies. Especially from Weird Al, and especially his song The Saga Begins. It's set to the tune of American Pie, but basically describes the events of the first chronological Star Wars movies in the most hilarious lyrics possible. I have stuck in my head all the time, like the part that goes "My, my, this here Anakin guy / Maybe Vader someday later now he's just a small fry." If you love parodies like I do, then The Saga Begins is definitely for you!

Christmas Songs

I'm not the type to listen to Christmas songs all year 'round, but I know there's someone out there who does so...this is for you! I actually have two recommendations in this category: a classic Christmas song by the name of Sleigh Ride; and How Many Kings by Downhere. I love Sleigh Ride, whether with lyrics or without, for its upbeat tempo and catchy tune. And How Many Kings just makes me so grateful to Jesus for what He's done--He stepped down from His throne, abandoned His home, and became the least for me, to save me. So it's just a great reminder of a song that makes me cry every time I listen.

Well, that's all for now! Though this doesn't cover all the song genres ever (now that would be a really long list) these are some of my favorite songs in the genres that I listen to.

Tell me below: what are some of your song recommendations? Do you listen to any of the genres I do? What are some of the genres that you listen to?

Best wishes,

~ Jonah
